Tax Day 2011: Tax Deadlines for Tax Year 2010
I know that you have heard that the tax deadline for 2011 has been moved back 3 days to April, 18th, but do you know why? The District of Columbia will observe Emancipation Day, a holiday that celebrates the freeing of slaves. The Emancipation Act was signed into law by President Lincoln on April 16th, 1862. However, most States commemorate the occasion with Juneteenth Celebrations on or around June 19th, the day Texas slaves finally received word of their freedom. Because of the number of federal workers in the nation’s capitol, filers in most states get a few extra days. Also, that is not the only deadline you may need to keep in mind.
